It was the Covid pandemic. Marathons were cancelled and runners couldn’t even go running with their buddies. So, how were runners supposed to stay engaged and find community while training apart? Nike partnered with R/GA London to create the Project Fearless Virtual Race, a virtual running programme to bring a stronger sense of optimism for runners.
To help inspire runners to keep moving, we created a Run Club City video series to tell the stories of run club members through the Nike Running Club App. Along with editorial of runners’ stories and pre-race packs on nutrition, sleep and recovery. We also made curated playlists and printable race numbers to help create a feeling of togetherness and motivation.
Then on 11 April 2021, Nike hosted its first official Fearless Virtual race through the Nike Running Club App to coincide with what should have been the Berlin Half and Milan and Paris Marathons.
“I run to keep my mind happy. Running makes me happy. I never see it as my job or anything. It just feels like my happy place.”
